How Much Money Is Enough?

Money is never “enough” if you define it by comparison.

There will always be someone earning more.

There will always be a bigger house, a better car, a higher number.

For me, “enough” is simpler.

Enough is when you can:

Provide comfortably for yourself.

Provide securely for your family.

Contribute meaningfully to your community.

Not just charity for attention. Not random handouts.

Don’t just give someone a fish — teach them how to fish.

Enough money is when survival is no longer your fear, and contribution becomes your priority.

Beyond that, it’s no longer about need. It’s about ego.

Quoting from Thirukkural.

Thirukkural is a classical Tamil work of moral philosophy composed over 2,000 years ago. It offers guidance on virtue, prosperity, and human relationships without promoting any specific religious doctrine.

📜 திருக்குறள் – Kural 247

அருளில்லார்க்கு அவ்வுலகம் இல்லை,

பொருளில்லார்க்கு இவ்வுலகம் இல்லாகி யாங்கு.

This is traditionally translated as:

“As this world is not for those without wealth, so that world (the next) is not for those without kindness.”

“இவ்வுலகம்” refers to this world.

“அவ்வுலகம்” refers to the next/world beyond.

It appears in the Arul Udaimai (Possession of Benevolence) section of Thirukkural.

Curious how others define “enough.”
