Living Life in 8 Stages and Choosing the Right Governance
The Live8x8 framework teaches us to view life in 8 stages—each shaping who we are, how we act, and what we aspire to become. It’s a practical guide for personal growth, reflection, and navigating life’s challenges.
But another factor profoundly influences every stage of life: governance. The policies, power structures, and leaders that govern us affect our education, opportunities, safety, and freedom—sometimes directly, sometimes subtly. The leaders we choose today shape the ecosystem in which we live and grow tomorrow.
I often refer to Thirukural, the classic Tamil text, when thinking about leadership and decision-making. What’s remarkable about Thirukural is that it is race- and religion-agnostic, offering universal wisdom about ethics, justice, and virtue—values that naturally align with the Live8x8 framework. Here are a few verses I find particularly relevant:
-
“முறை செய்தும் மன்னவன் பிறர்க்கு அளிக்கும்”
“A king who rules according to established law benefits his people.”
Just governance follows principles, not personal whims.
-
“அரசன் செய்யின் அஞ்சாமல் பிறர் செயின் அஞ்சு”
“The ruler who governs with virtue faces no fear, and his people too live without fear.”
Ethical leadership creates a secure society.
-
“கொல்லாது செய்யல் அறியார் வினை அறிதல் குலமானே”
“Those who do no harm and know righteous deeds are noble indeed.”
Leadership and citizens alike must act with moral responsibility.
-
“நீதி யாதெனின் நாட்டார்க்கு அருந்தாமை”
“When justice prevails, the people flourish.”
Justice is the foundation of societal growth at every stage of life.
So here’s what I’d like to ask this community:
How do governance and political decisions influence your life at different stages? How do you approach choosing the right leaders in your context?
Let’s discuss the interplay between personal growth and the society we live in, and how thoughtful participation in governance can help us live better through all 8 stages of life.
